Saint Celestine
A good ability. Draw to replace the "missing" unit only if it isn't killed is a very nice touch.
Very strong fighting WL, typical "First planet warlord". Her ability with proper cards in deck is really easy to use. We can call it a built in combat trick. The Deluxe contains enough tough units to play with. She's easy and fun, funnier than Vardina.
I played her a lot already. She is Subject-Omega for Astra. Draw no Faith generation and it's going to be a hard game. Otherwise she is hard to play but rewarding. And she works miracles, Interrogator Acolyte is actually an excellent card in her deck.
Saint Celestine (Bloodied)
Opportinity to save a game is always good, at least better than most of the WLs.
Good that WL has "bloodied" ability. But this one ain't gonna be used often. 1 in 10 games. But it still good that we have something more than "Bloodied" keyword.
The pinnacle of fluff-ability. Just like the tabletop game. Mechanic-wise a one-time saver is cool, just remember, when activated you avoid being bloodied, so you don't move to the HQ. In situations (often) where your opponent has enough firepower at the planet, she WILL be defeated anyway.
Heralding Cherubim
Good, moving ability can always be good. stats are average.
Decent signature units. Classic 2/2/2 1 hammer stats, but a perfect synergy with the WL ability. Creating Faith tokens just before combat is crucial for Celestine.
The ability to readjust command struggles is unvaluable. And it's very easy to keep it alive, which is crucial for your Faith generation. A very strong unit.
Miraculous Intervention
A bit situational, but can turn the tides of battle.
Good ambush card, cheap and synergic with WL. Second ability is very situational, small add-on.
Situational at first glance, but because Celestine is a "First planet" warlord, it's very useful. It allows you to commit wherever you want. And it has an interesting synergy with the sig unit.
Armour of Saint Katherine
Ok that's a new Faith factory but that's it...
Perfect against elite decks and swarm decks. Maximum damage capped to 3 plus Faith generation against against snots or other weak units, and all this for... 0 R. Impressive.
Very good. It is still possible to kill her, but at least she can "try" something against crazy Elite decks, which is important for a First Planet warlord.
Order of the Crimson Oath
For zero cost it's very good.
Knowing that each game your opponent gonna win a battle from time to time means that we benefit from this support often. It can be triggered multiple times, 2 times for sure. I even had situation when opponent had 3 battles to win, but clogged with corpses quickly get me to the ground:) Again its for 0. Great and cheap card
Love the card because it shuts down if you start snowballing. It's not going to destroy your opponent's fun, but it helps you reaching the units you need to play your warlord's ability. A very sweet design that emphasis fun.
Canoness Vardina
Very good Faith producer.
The weaker sister from this pack. But do not underestimate her. Her ability works anywhere with small bost with enemy WL on a planet. She is the F tokens generater so in her deck we can put more cards that require faith to work for example: Fanatical Sister Repentia or Vengeful Seraphin.
Solid, simple, efficient. In my experience she is stronger than Saint Celestine. Self-sustainability in Faith generation is a huge boost for some of the most interesting Ecclesiarchy units. Because she is stronger with midrange units, that worth being protected with Faith, she's different from the "average" swarm Astra warlord, which is cool.
Canoness Vardina (Bloodied)
Same stats + Still a producer one last time. What else?
Same as Celestine: it's nice to have something on the Bloodied side. And far more likely to trigger if you get bloodied unlike Celestine.
A small boost. Reminder: the turn she is bloodied, she must move back to HQ, so she can't use her ability that turn because unlike her hale ability, it's restricted to her planet only. Seems minor, but very often you get bloodied during the final battle.
Sororitas Command Squad
Wow, can be quite deadly.
Properly used they can be really dangerous. One time I saw an Helldrake beaten by this unit in a face-off. It was my Helldrake :(
It's okay, but it requires a real effort to make it work. You need the sig event (or a lot of Faith), and you musn't face low ATK foes.
Faith Denies Death
Shield 5 for (almost) zero cost.
Remember the story of that poor Helldrake taken down by sororitas? Well that card was part of the story.
Nice event. Cool synergy with the sig unit.
Transcendent Blessing
Quite good + can stay on the board.
+1/+1... only? Well thats not enough for me to waste triple shield.
It can be really really annoying for your opponent, but it isn't that easy to handle.
Supreme Appearance
Wow such a CC for only 1 cost, seems completely OP even if it hits your units as well.
Looks like the game winning card... sometimes. Because its situational I'm deducting 1 point.
Mostly useful when you don't have the upper hand. Which means it isn't a snowball support. (And I'm happy with that.) Also, nothing says "Kneel before the God-Emperor!" better than this card.
Tenacious Novice Squad
Very good.
Cool eco unit. Must have x 3 in all sister decks and why not in other decks.
A good alternative to other Astra 1 coster. The "end-of-turn Faith removal" make it not so great thus.
Penitent Engine
Only gets 3/3 for 3 when you can't kill opp's unit. Below average.
The problem with this unit is that it needs few other units to do unsuccessful attacks. How big boost we gonna receive? Well not much. Simply no place for such a unit in deck. Martyr trait doesn't save her.
Can be an interesting addition to a swarm deck. Otherwise I don't think it worth it.
Dominion Eugenia
3 command icons for 4 is already huge, 3 ATK Armorbane also is. And the ability is fearsome.
Now this is f...ing... (lack of words) I call her "Sister of Klaivex" Those stats and her ability makes her simply OP. With the help of a few other ecclesiarchy units you can create an impenetrable wall of faith. Not to mention she have armourbane while Faithful, which is 90% of her attacks.
4-costers are very often not worth the price. This one does. Not tailored for small engagments, she's a beast for any important battle. If your opponent can't take it down quickly enough, it becomes pretty nasty.
Sacred Rose Immolator
Spreading damage can always be good, but you'll need several units on the other side to be really efficient.
I couldn't find any place in a sister deck for this. Looks decent, I will try it someday. But definitly starblaze gonna like it. Move+attack, twice trigged having ini: nice.
Spread damage, damage on commit, faith generation. Synergizes with Gorzod and Starblaze. A pure beast.
Fanatical Sister Repentia
Quite good, not 4/5 because she still needs a condition to be really efficient.
First line fighter in Vardina's decks. Working perfect with Eugenia. But it's 3 cost. I'm giving only 3/5 (let's say 3.5/5) coz she is in 3R range and there is plenty ecclesiarchy units in that range. She is a martyr so there is chance to build a deck on this trait type
The stats are good, the ability as well. But it's a 3/5 for me because she's quite faith-dependant. In some situations you just can't deploy it. (ranged, lack of initiative, necron HP reduction)
Heavy Flamer Retributor
Will need some protection, but can be very deadly.
Here again 3 R unit with cool ability. I'm giving 4 for having 2 hammers.
Very good midrange unit. Something required for the new decks. Nasty in combo with Holy Chapel for last minute threat.
Exalted Celestians
Maybe some nasty combo with this "cannot take damage", still very good by itself.
Celestine type unit. Small faith generator. I have one or two in deck but they never done any amazing tricks leading to the win. Simple 2 hit and faith token pop. Pros is that they are immune to area damage having faith.
Immune to AE and equivalent is cool but this unit really shines in small battles. In a duel, it readies after each attack, which means 1 Faith each time.
Devoted Hospitaller
Multiple effect with one card is usually good. There bowing + producing faith is good.
One of my favorites units in this pack. It's so versatile and flexible. You can steal command, exhaust big badaboom, generate faith. For only 2 R. Perfect.
A solid flexible unit. Not fitting every deck, but quite okay in some. Fun to play with Saint Celestine as a combat trick.
Eloquent Confessor
A unit that guarantee that no units will come to bother you in an important battle is pretty good.
Bahartoth is crying seeying this unit on first planet... poor little fella. Need to be supported by Vardina. Good response for chaos teleporting elites
A good unit, but faith-dependant means you really must have a deck that is tailored for it.
Zealous Cantus
Ok a basic unit to generate faith. That's all it does.
Another shining star. With this unit you can easly generate 4-5 faith per round, with 2 of them under your control its doubled etc. The trick is that it triggers on discard, so you get the bonus even when shielding with an Ecclesiarchy card :)
A very, very potent Faith generating unit, especially if left unattended by your opponent. Ideally you don't want to deploy it on P1 but on a safer planet. It costs 3, but it's a worthy investment on the long term.
Vengeful Seraphim
Unit is ok, but what really matters is that it's another 3 cost unit, will you have room for it?
Interesting unit, nearly all first attack going on her, unless there is Eugenia. Vardina decks only.
Very dangerous unit. Your opponent wants it down first, but if there are better targets then it's a cruel dilemna for him, especially if you managed to get some Faith on it.
Patron Saint
Wow, ok a little costy to deploy, but for DS she's quite awesome.
Decent stats as for this kind a DS unit. She can heal Celestine/Vardina with is important as Celestine like to fight on first planet, so healing few wounds is crucial.
An obvious good choice for the fighty Saint Celestine, but I also tested it in Maksim and it works pretty well: you have STC in play for your tanks and it's an Elite + when you win battles your tanks are almost always heavily wounded.
Saint Erika
Getting back units to hand can be very good.
Big cannon of Celestine, making her very dangerous from the very first round. With this card she can face chaos elite decks, which is a difficult task nowaday.
I love her. The ability is good, the timing is precise and requires planning and the fluff is great. Note: Impossible to play with Saint Celestine. You can't afford to spend Faith. ^^
Evangelizing Ships
I think I would prefer investing/spending faith on other effects.
Straken might like it. There is a lot of potential in this card, but the deck need to be specially created for this card.
A bizarre unit. My guess is that is not designed to be played with the SoB warlords. I tried it with Coteaz and Straken with correct results.
Pattern IX Immolator
Ability sounds quite good, needs to see it on the field, it also means you need to lose command and again another 3 cost units.
Again 3/3 for 3R. Triging this ability not always gonna be easy. Got this in Maksim deck, just for fun.
More correct midrange. While not super efficient in Astra, it's a 3/3 for 2R for Gorzod (and it works very well).
Cost 1 to reduce by 2 as you need to lose, does not look very appealing to me.
Interesting support. It has a lot of requiments to work+limited and skull, but the payoff is big. If the stars on the sky gonna set properly we might recive nearly free unit on a planet each turn, without losing a card.
This support is incredible. It provides the card, it reduces the cost. You just can't get choked or die out of lack of resources once it is out.
Quite good for zero cost.
Maksim only. +1 ATK, finally our comrade with a funny hat can swing for 2 and his signature units can actually *do* something. Only 3/5 coz it requires Faith to work, big pros for giving a faith+card draw for landing on discard, with Maksim is easy to do.
Thanks to the design it is Maksim's best card, shield for 2 with it, get a free card and faith. Really gives him a chance to compete with the strongest decks. If you draw it late and have a sufficient Faith generation, you can turn Maksim into a 2 ATK warlord! Hurrah!
Generating faith this way looks good.
Since the release of Defender of Faith this support is the most wanted of new supports of this pack. Comment is pointless, everyone knows why.
Most solid faith generation of the deluxe. A must for any Faith dependant deck.
Sounds Ok, can save you faith..
I've tryied to squize any juice out of this support... but I failed. It just doesn't work. A good opponent always gonna find a way to bypass it. Second ability encourage to create deck founded on martyr units. Hmm mayby one day.
It all depends if your deck needs a Catachan Outpost in the first place. If it does, you can try this one and save some Faith in the process. Cheaper than CO by 1, gives 3x+1 ATK instead of +2 ATK.
Really good effect with 2 shields.
This card can put faith on any Astra unit! So guardsmen and WL can benefit from this. 4 units on first planet including WL (which is not so rare) and voila 4 Faith same as holy chapel and used as a combat trick. If this card had 1 shield icon and cost 1 I still would play 3.
It is situational, but it has 2 shields. So it's a good pretender. Still less efficient than Preemptive Barrage and a few other Astra tricks, it starts being very hard to find slots for events now (which is good).
Another 2 effects in 1 card, 2 shields for 1 cost, quite awesome.
Situational combat trick suits nearly every astra deck. Second great response to chaos teleporting elites.
I like it. It works correctly. Being a bit situational it doesn't get 5/5. If your warlord, alone, is facing a teleporting Ranged-Possessed, this card isn't going to save you.
Reducing cost is good, but you need some conditions to really get a good reduction.
You see first planet is green and you smile under your nose telling your opponent that he won first :)
Ecclesiarchy decks only. But it's really cool to turn the tides. Also a great synergy with Agra's Preachings. If you don't want Agra's to miss because you ran out of cash, a good cost reducer is all you need.
(On a sidenote, I find the design interesting, once you consider this card for your deck, Troop Transport is less appealing ('cos you win on Green), which is a nice way to propose alternatives to the auto-includes x3 cards.)
Ok cost will surely be reduced to zero, but still you will destroy one unit...
If this as an answer how to beat the helldrake, well.. suppresive fire is better. No place in deck for this card unless you want to be original. But hey I have blacksun filter in my Shaper Agnok deck so why not to try this someday.
This card has a small contradiction that prevents it to be super-good. To trigger it proprely, you need to run a lot of Ecclesiarchy units (midrange), but to benefit from it you need a lot of small units (swamrange).
Quite good but maybe there are better ways to generate faith.
Cool gun. 1/1 for 1R is standard. But generating Faith in such an easy way is priceless.
A correct attachment for normal decks, I give it a 4/5 in Faith-dependant decks. You need such "easy" source of Faith generation.
Ok, another attachment, depending on the meta it can be useful.
Well, cheap and solid blade. You can even attach it to a token and it has 2 shields. Perfect weapon.
When it was released I was like "OMG". Now I just like it. To be fair attachments are so hard to play in Conquest that this Blade is just fine for a Relic. For once an attachment you don't regret to put in your deck.
For DS cost sounds really good.
Personally I would put 5/5 coz I like this weapon and I was using it a lot of times in my Snagbrat / Vezuel / Starblaze decks. Because Deep strike. Must have x3 in decks based on ranged units. Reason it's 4/5 is "Blade of Crimson Oath".
Obviously designed for Snagbrat and Vezuel, not for Ecclesiarchy. But in that role it works quite well (especially a hunter-Snagrat).
Can be interesting. Not at crazy as it may seems.
Never test it before, but at first glaze look like some kind a drop pod, but unit cames exhausted and propably aint gonna last long. Blood Angels Vets don't like to be exhausted.
Tested and approved. A funny little unit with a good effect.
Can be really good but under certain circumstances only, that's why it does not get 4/5.
If I understand correctly, this is an elite killer in Zen deck. I'll need to play few games with this to make my opinion about this card.
When it was released it was a good unit (3/5), now that we have Zen "Xi" Aonia, the Harlequin warlord, the intended synergy makes far more sense. A good job.
Ok, but needs other cards to be really effective.
Cool machine. I'm preparing myself to build zogwort on that. If We look closer We can notice it can work even without runts. There is no restriction "no wargear attachments" So u can add to this unit everytching. ork+astra have planty of junk with this unit can fly, even.... "Hostile Environment Gear", not so fluffy, but working well.
The best "fun" card Apoka ever designed. I can literally see it coming to life on the board. Snotlings hop-ing in with copilot glasses to add useless parts to the flying machine. Even the traits are hilarious. (I know, I'm talking about fluff more than gameplay. My favorite warlord is Baarzul. Enough said. ^^)
Can be really good but again it needs a card on it. Still the non-rout effect can be quite annoying.
Personally I don't like this design and this card. I know it should be 4/5, but I just don't like it. Maybe someday I'm gonna convince myself to this card. Working with Barzul coz of trait.
YES. AT LAST. Wonderful unit! Baarzul (and any midrange Chaos deck) was in great need of competitive units. The effect is powerful but hard to handle. Your opponent can lay traps because of the Forced part. Very interesting to play, but before you deploy it, you need to think ahead about the 2-3 next rounds.
Really strong effect. Anti-targeting effects are always good.
Ability is very situational. And it stats doesn't help. Skull doesn't help either. Borkan win with this unit in a struggle for place in a deck.
Tau are weak to rout/exhaust effects. This is a great helper with good stats.
Only 3/5 as it really depends on the planet it is on, I mean it needs not to be on first planet.
Apoka supports new warlords with new cards for them, and this one is for liatha. We can put in every other decks 2 shield, not bad stats for 1R DS. But in Liatha deck IMO it's a 3x.
A nice attachment with a "maybe" recycle effect. Maybe not worth it in all decks, but I tested it with Morn and Liatha and it works quite well.
Can be really effective.
I love this card especially when I have 2-3 synaptic link on the table. Versitality given by this card is priceless (I usually spawn fighting synapses).
So, so, so flexible. That card is just fantastic. It can be used is so many situations that it is impossible to list them.
Even if the cost can be tough to pay I guess it's worth the 4 cost anyway.
Big, Bad and Ugly. 6/6 for 4 R and with silly cost of discarding 2 cards. Discarding 2 cards is not always a cost but sometimes is an opportunity. While creating Imothek I was looking for another tricks (aside of recycle) for card discarding, and here we are. This card is good to all decks, its stats are simply powerful. And a great reaction!
Great combo with Anrakyr and Imothek. Good for 6 units in grave requirements. Nice Reaction that works as an insurance, most needed for the dreaded 4-cost range.
Very good for zero cost, + possible draw.
When I'm not playing with elites I always put this 3x in a deck. First of all we have insight what we have on top of a deck, second we can drop usless card (depending on the situation at hand) on bottom of deck and third most interesting we have possibility to draw a card if we handle it properly.
An equivalent to STC for midrange but with a more interesting effect? Yes please. The card is really good. Tested it in x2 in my midrange decks, it works fine. I'm not sure about x3 thus.
I really like the idea and effect can be really strong.
Sitational, no more comment. Fantastic graphic on promo from Flames of War event
If you play x3, I give it a 3/5, because it's a bit situational, and you get full benefits only once. In x1 or x2, it goes up to a 4/5.
